 I love music production.

My family has had a background in singing, having even competed in amateur singing competitions. I mean, like, music has been a part of me and my family's life for years.
I've been composing as early as the age of ??? while on my broken-keyboard Macbook Air on garageband, using a bunch of loops and hoping for the best. I've even tried other music production apps when I used to have an iPad like Medly, Auxy, Soundbrush? that music making has been familiar to me.

Around 2023, I've gone through really hard times (esp with school) but I had the comfort of listening to bands and K-pop groups that I owe them so much into getting me to produce some beats myself. 2023 is when I started to take music production a bit more seriously, having gotten a copy of FL Studio (Fruity Loops) and struggling with the overwhelming UI for the first few months, and binging so many Youtube tutorials and downloading them for safekeeping (or like my paranoid brain thinks, if the world ends and thered be no wifi anymore to look up tutorials?! WHAT)

I started with mashups, using instrumentals and rearranging them in my own way. I had the vocals and instruments extracted using online services before I found out that you can extract them yourself using apps and offline. Then tried (and failed) a couple times making remixes with custom instrumentals, since I didnt know how to layer instruments and frequencies and all that stuff. But time flies SO FAST while I was having so much fun producing to the point that I couldnt even remember how bad I was years ago.

Then I started getting sample packs and third-party instruments that improved my music tremendously... the sound quality was so different that I realized my melodies werent really an issue; it was the tools I had. I was limited back then by the VSTs provided by FL Studio (and I have no idea how to utilize them in my songs) and like, sample packs were an easy way out.

Time passes by again and now it's 2025. I just realized volume is a thing and now my sounds are getting a bit more balanced. I have no idea how my ears adjusted to music production; I have almost no experience with music theory, only knowing a couple like chords and weird but cool notes that "don't fit" in a scale, rule of thirds? But that's about it, I might get into the more nitty-gritty complex brainrot there but yknow me, too lazy and like, it still sounds good anyway and thankfully I can hum decent melodies and rhythms and I'm hoping they dont get repetitive over time with my lack of finesse.

I'm also starting to appreciate the stock plugins because there are some legit good sounds out there, I just needed to put more effort in using effects to my advantage. Lo and behold, I did the impossible of making stock stuff sound decent! (The stock samples are weird, though...)
This year, or at least this second half marks the part when I learned about effects, song transitions and white noise. WHITE NOISE IS SO ADDICTING FRICKKKK like all I do is just add those whoosh things before and after a pop/edm production and BOOM. my music improves by a ton. Like who would've thought that's pretty much there is to it??? Filling out frequencies?? Hello???!!!! Low notes go doot, high notes go doot and mid notes go doot but too much high notes bad for your ears so you need to lower them??? Like it was a major whiplash, I cant go the same way I used to anymore. And I also realized that like in books, music genres have their archetypes and recognizable traits. Like sure, I can go experimental but realizing that archetype is a vital base for my sound changed my life. There are these tried and tested options that always work well no matter what you do, and like, I wish I wasnt stubborn back then and followed those rules sooner.

For the future, I dont really know what's in store for me in terms of music production, but I really hope it gets better from there! P.S. I still hope I can get to learn to produce dubstep with easier plugins other than those promoted by youtubers but I guess I'll have to see for myself 😛
